About Us
The Friends of Malmesbury Abbey was founded in 1945 just after World War II by a forward thinking group of people who realised that they wanted to help preserve and enhance the fabric of this important historical building which encompasses so much of the history of the town. Where would Malmesbury be without the beautiful and historic abbey to use not only for church services but also town events put on by community groups. The society tries to educate through its many publications to anyone interested in learning more about the history of the abbey and town. And it supports other groups who are raising awareness of this part of our heritage. In doing this it supports the vicar and the PCC in projects that need doing to keep the building open for the congregation and the public alike.
Over the many years it has been working in the background supporting many different activities and with your help we can continue to promote, preserve and support this wonderful community asset for the town and its visitors into the future.
